"Prostitution is not an offence and women have right to choose their own vocation": Bombay HC

On 24th September 2020, the Bombay High Court stated that Adult women have their fundamental right to choose their profession. While ordering, Justice Chavan stated that there is no provision of law that makes prostitution as a criminal offence or penalize a person who indulges in it. Further stating that purpose and objective of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 is not to abolish prostitution. But law that only penalizes in case of sexual exploitation and abuse a person for “commercial purpose”.
