“Do not cross-over”: Bombay HC admonishes Republic TV in SSR media trial Issue.

On 29th Oct 2020, the Bombay high court inferred that it was thinking of passing guidelines for media reporting on ongoing criminal inspections.
“We would like media not to cross boundaries”, observed a bench including CJ Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni is listening to a clump of PIL's striving for the ordinance of “media trial” in the context of reporting of the Sushant Singh Rajput death.
The court stated that it had not inferred any Judgement in which an apparent act of media trial was at a pre-charge sheet stage.
For the witnesses, the court conveyed their interests on the impact of media reportage on the feasible witnesses who are being mustered for investigation.
Concerning the influence of media on police officers, the court asked parties to elucidate whether the doctrine of media trial impacting a judge would apply to investigating officer too.
In the earlier hearing, the bench identified that it might be expected to hand out guidelines to deter media trials. The next hearing will proceed on November 6th that is a Friday next week.
