Allahabad HC denied to look into the utilisation of funds released under MPLADS
5th September 2020
On Thursday the Allahabad High Court stated that the court cannot direct to make an inquiry regarding the utilisation of funds released under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
Justices Pankaj Mithal and Yogendra Kumar Stivasthava observed that the scheme contains sufficient guidelines to maintain clarity in the work to be executed. The Court further stated that the MPLADS is a scheme formulated by the Government of India which authorizes MP to approve development work in their constituencies with a priority on creating community assets based on local felt needs.
In 2018, the central information suggested Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman to issue appropriate legal framework to lead in more accountability and transparency in the utilisation of funds under the MPLADS.
