Allahabad HC restricts serving of hookahs in UP

The Allahabad High Court recently passed an order directing the Chief Secretary of Utter Pradesh to not permit restaurants and cafes to run Hookahs until further orders.
The matter was taken up suo motu by the High Court, after it received a letter petition from LL.B. student Hari Govind Dubey seeking a ban on serving of Hookah at establishments as a preventive measure against the spread of Corona virus.
A Bench comprised of Justices Shashikant Gupta and Shamim Ahmed had took this decision.
The general secretary to send a copy of the order to the chief secretary and all the district magistrates of the state for compliance said the court. The Court has asked for a compliance report of this order by September 30.
