8th November, 2020
The order passed by BARC on TV Today Network limited to deposit a fine of five lakhs had been quashed by the Bombay high court. The TV Today Network Limited is a company, which owns the news channel India Today, the imposition of fine is because they alleged it for viewership malpractice.
It was before the court that earlier the BARC’s disciplinary council did not properly do their work but now they have a new code of conduct for checking viewership malpractices and they are ready to give them another chance.
The TV Today Network limited also said that they would appear for this fresh hearing and after hearing both the sides the court quashed the earlier order of the BARC of imposing a fine on the company and allowed TV Today Network to withdraw its money back.
The fine was imposed when the BARC saw an exceptional increase in the viewership of the particular channel and asked the reason behind it but did not get a satisfactory response from the company because of which the BARC imposed a fine of five lakhs on it.
