Calcutta HC orders to increase number of functional courts due to heavy workload.

On 26th September 2020, due to increase in workload of High Court and District Court, Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court has ordered to increase the functional court.
Registrar of High Court, General Rai Chattopadyaya has issued a notification that four division Judge Bench headed by CJ TBN Radhakrishnan will continue to function at present apart from that four regular single bench will look after writ petitions only, three days in week.
In final hearing, both before the division bench and the single bench, physical hearing will be permissible. However, the virtual mode will continue to be as the preferred mode.
Calcutta High court official stated that in coming day’s situation is going to be more critical as 11 judges of the court will retire by November of this year.
