Chief Justice Govind Mathur Bats for Fundamental Rights – Kafeel Khan Case

The HC on Tuesday quashed the detention of Dr. Kafeel Khan under NSA, 1980. Dr. Kafeel Khan was arrested for allegedly giving a provocative speech during an anti-CAA protest last year. He had been in Mathura Jail since January 2020.
With the resounding verdict against the preventive detention of Dr. Kafeel Khan, Chief Justice Govind Mathur marked himself as an unfailing defender of the citizens' fundamental rights.
In March, he passed a significant order directing UP government to remove hoardings erected at public places displaying pictures and addresses of persons alleged to have taken part in protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
In May, the bench headed by Justice Mathur took cognisance of various issues arising due to Covid-19 and the lockdown.
