Court imposed a cost of Rs. 25000/- on the petitioner for a “cheap publicity”

The Allahabad HC had dismissed a PIL petition seeking revocation of citizenship of Kanhaiya Kumar, former president of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students’ union, in connection with the alleged anti-national slogans that he raised at a gathering in 2016.
The petition was filed by Nageshwar Mishra of Varanasi. The petitioner urged that Kanhaiya Kumar has been supporting the terrorist groups who are working on the instigation of Pakistan.
A bench comprising justice SK Gupta and justice Shamim Ahmed stated that the plea was nothing but a publicity stunt and a waste of time for the court which was working with limited strength due to pandemic. Due to this the court fined the petitioner with Rs.25, 000/- and with a time limit of 30 days.
