Election commission approaches SC regarding Madhya Pradesh HC order on restraining of physical poll campaigns

The election commission challenged the Madhya Pradesh HC order for holding the physical gatherings by political parties for campaigning in assembly bye-polls in the state, so the Election Commission moved to the Supreme Court. The Gwalior Bench of HC put stringent restrictions on physical campaigning by candidates for the assembly bye- elections in Madhya Pradesh in view of pandemic situation where the HC said that the political parties will have to take permission from the district collector to hold physical gatherings and a certificate from the poll panel that virtual campaigning was not possible. It also stated that if physical gathering over 100 is allowed then the parties should provide masks and sanitizers for the people with COVID guidelines.
