HC ordered the State and University to pay five lakh each to Shoma Sen

The Bombay HC on Friday ordered the State Government and Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University to pay Rs.5 lakh each to retired Lecturer Shoma Sen of English department.
Shoma Sen was supposed to retire from service in July, 2018 as she was reaching 60. She was arrested on June 6th, 2018 for allegedly involvement with Maoists and playing active role in Koregaon-Bhima violence. Due to this, she was suspended and was not given her retrial dues.
The court observed that the NU failed to come up with satisfactory explanation for withholding Sen’s retirement benefits. Hence, the court ordered the University and the state to pay Rs.5 lakh to the petitioner within a week, without prejudice to rights and contention of the parties.
