Kerala Government to bring amendment in Police Act to deal with insults by Social media

The Kerala Government has declared to amend the Police Act to include intimidation, defamation, or insulting of any person through social media as an offence punishable with imprisonment of term up to five years and 10,000/- fine. The government also recommended to promulgate an ordinance in this grade and a new section 118 was added to Kerala police Act.
The government in a press release said that it is concerned about increasing incidents of crimes and stated that the existing sections are not sufficient for these crimes.
