Most effective protection provided to Swapna Suresh: Kerala Court

Kerala High Court has directed the jail authorities to have the most effective protection for Swapna Suresh, an accused in the gold smuggling case.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ernakulam, issued these directions in an application filed by Swapna, who claimed that during the time of judicial custody, someone threatened her with dire consequences in the event of disclosing the name of a higher-profile person’s.
ACJM Deepu C observed that there is “absolutely no ground to disbelieve her version” and that the allegation raised by her ‘appears to be serious in nature that attracts penal consequence apart from contempt of court'.
The court issued the following directives that the director-general of prison and correctional services and Superintendent of women’s prison and correctional home, provide most effective’s protection to the petitioner, and the petitioner shall not be threatened or tortured in any manner.
