On the plea challenging an amendment to Land Reform Act the State Government gets notice from Karnataka HC.


A petition challenging about the Constitutional Validity of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act (Amendment) ordinance, 2020 promulgated on July 13th issued by the Karnataka High Court to the State Government. The Petition states that the ordinance had brought tremendous pressure on farmers to sell their land and no farmer could purchase agricultural land any time in future due to highly speculative agricultural investment, the same would further destroy interest of farmers.
The Karnataka Government has been attempting to defeat the very objective of the land Reforms Act slowly, but deliberately.
The Government has increased the non- agriculture income limit for purchasing and agriculture land from (2lakh to 25lakh). The economic forces who want to snatch away agricultural land from the vast population. The petitioner contended, a farmer cannot compete with this price in the open market to purchase farmland later it pertains to amendment of Section 63, and omission of Section- 79(A), 79(B) of Karnataka Land Reforms Act and declared it Unconstitutional and void.
