Pakistan SC: No “Honour “in Honour killing, need to discourage crime against women.
7th September 2020
The Pakistan Supreme Court on Friday observed that the killing of women in the name of honour had never been an honourable practice, saying such murders should not be categorised as honour killings.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Isa had taken up the jail appeal of Mohammad Abbas against the Sept 8, 2015 verdict of the Lahore High Court in the murder case of his wife, Saima Bibi. The law regarding 'qatl-i-amd' (Section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code) in effect, specifically states that under no circumstances can killing in the name or under the pretext of honour be brought within the ambit of section 302 (c) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
