Republic TV questioned over it's “Investigative Journalism” in SSR media trial case by Bombay HC

On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court bench comprising of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice G.S.Kulkarni posed queries to the Republic TV channel's lawyer, Advocate Malvika Trivedi over investigative journalism. The issue was addressed over Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking “media trial” in the context of Sushanth Singh Rajput case. The lawyer submitted that there was something amiss and lacunae with the Mumbai Police investigation into the matter. Adding to this she said that, none of the personally aggrieved parties was before the court hence the issue cannot come under a PIL. She further explained how the “investigative journalism” conducted by Republic TV has helped bring forth important facts regarding Sheena Bora murder case and Sunanda Pushkar case.
The bench also explained its disapproval in how the Sushanth Singh death was reported and claimed it to be “disrespectful” in nature. To this the lawyer answered that there was a redressal mechanism available for matters of grievances and all the Republic TV reports have to come under the same framework of checks and balances.
