SC orders removal of 48,000 slums around Delhi rail tracks
SEP.03,2020
The Supreme Court has ordered to remove 48,000 slum dwellings along railway tracks in Delhi within three months and has further directed that no court should grant any stay on the removal of the slums.
This order was derived while hearing the MC Mehta case, related to pollution . The top court has been passing directions in the case from time to time since 1985.
A bench comprising of Justices B R Gavai and Krishna Murari had directed the Railways and MCD to remove plastic bags and garbage near the railway track since it causes pollution.
In 2018, the Delhi High Court had also passed similar orders for the removal of jhuggi clusters from safety zones of railway tracks.
