SC Pulls Up The State Government Of Maharashtra And Delhi For Not Filing Affidavits Regarding Statutes For The Welfare Of Migrant Workers.

On Monday the Supreme Court pulled up the state government of Maharashtra and NCT of Delhi for not filing affidavits regarding the implementation of statutes for the welfare of migrant workers. The court expressed its displeasure stating that non-filing of affidavits. The state of Maharashtra and Delhi are the states where the maximum number of migrants have come for work.
Having considered the request of the council's appearing for both governments, the court allowed a further two week period to Maharashtra, Delhi and other states. The court had also taken note of the non- compliance of states and Union Territories with directions laid down in its June a order which contemplated with respect to registration of workers in terms of enactments, namely, interstate migrant workmen (RECS) Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Services,ACT,1979 and Unorganised Construction Workers (RECS) ACT,1996 and Workers Social SecurityAct( 2008).
