The Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz, allegedly in breach of visa provisions, was permitted by the Supreme Court on Thursday to make representations before the nodal officer, suggested by the Central government, requesting permission to return to their country of origin in the event that they were confronted by criminal proceedings in Delhi.
Then Justice A M Khanwilkar bench ordered the decision to make such representations, preferably within a four-day period but not later than one week after receipt.
Then Additional Solicitor General, K M Natraj, suggested the Delhi Deputy Police Commissioner, Mr. Joy Tirkey, to be the NODAL Officer for dealing with foreign national representations in Delhi.
The ASG informed the bench that 8 of the foreigners were released from court and demands for review of the order for discharge had been lodged.
The Court declared that the discharged are free to file requests for a return to the country of origin subject to undertaking and protection before the Court of Justice.
