Supreme Court refuses to quash Journalist Amish Devgan’s FIR regarding remarks Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chishti

While hosting a debate on June 15 on BIL’s regarding the place of work ships special provision act on his show ‘Aar par', Amish hat called Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, Better known as Khwaja ghreeb Nawaz, an “attacker” and “lootera”.Following that several Police Complaints and fires were registered against the anchor across the country. A Bench of justice AM khanvilkar and Sanjeev Khanna however clubbed all FIR's filed against Devgan and transferred them to Ajmer.
Devgan's petition was filed through advocate Vivek Jain Sought quashing of the fires which have invoked section 295A, 153A, 505and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The bench stated that the petitioner was an equal co-participant, rather than a mere host, it would be appropriate at this stage to quash the First and thus stall the investigation into all the relevant aspects”, the judges observed. Devgan had also profusely apologized for referring to the sufi saint as a “lootera” and called it an “inadvertent error”.
